Access remains the biggest barrier to eye care in rural Bihar. Long distances, limited transport, and the cost of missing a day’s work often delay treatment until vision loss becomes severe. For many families, reaching a hospital is not a practical option.
Drishti Saathi is designed to close this gap. Through a network of mobile vision vans, Akhand Jyoti delivers essential eye care services directly to underserved villages.
Each visit provides free eye examinations, visual acuity testing, identification of common eye conditions, on-the-spot spectacles, and referrals for cataract surgery and advanced treatment. The vans are staffed by trained optometrists and supported by community mobilisers to ensure smooth follow-up and continuity of care.
